How I met my boss.

Let's get one thing clear! I have known him before he actually was my boss. He was a colleague, a friend.

I had just started a new job that I had little to no experience in. I was nervous as fuck, but I was excited because I'd finally found the area I wanted to build my career in. People who know me know how hard it is for me to choose one path and stick to it - I'll either get bored, get excited about something new, or learn something and I'd want to build a career out of it.

But this was something so vast and so exciting that I can see myself doing it for the rest of my life!

So yeah, new day, new job, excitement in the air, and whatnot. In my department, there are several different teams, and in my team, I was the only one working in my office - my teammates were working in a different office, heck it was a different continent altogether.

The company had a "buddy" system, where a new joiner is assigned a teammate to train them, guide them, and help them onboard properly. My buddy was my now boss...

We hit it off instantly - he was super smart, funny, a bit dorky but in a cute way. Ok, a LOT dorky, but that made me like him more as a person. He had this cool vibe around him and he wasn't afraid of what people thought of him. He knew exactly who he was and he was ok with it (as we all should be), and he wasn't changing for anyone. He said to the world "This is who I am, this is who I want to be - take it or leave it." And that made me appreciate him and look up to him.

I joined on a Monday, and on Wednesday, the department manager (who was also working in the same office as me) said that he was going to visit the other office the following week and asked me if I wanted to join to meet my teammates.

I LOVE TRAVELING!

But I wasn't excited about this news - mainly because it was very short notice, it was on a different continent, not that I was scared, but it was a 3-week trip and I had never been that far for that long from my then boyfriend, and honestly, I didn't want to go.

Yes...of course, I told them yes. My plan was to excel in this job and do whatever it took to learn as much as I could and show them that I was worthy of taking a chance on. I was extremely lucky to get this job and I was not gonna screw it up in the first week.

So I messaged my buddy that I would see him in less than a week, I packed, I said by to my dogs and my boyfriend, and headed off to a 10-hour flight to the other side of the world and to what would be, without realising it, the start of my new life...
